A portfolio won’t help

A portfolio is a beautiful collection, but it won’t help 📕

It can take us a lot of time to make a big and comprehensive album of our work so far, which is very fashionable and dazzling. 🕰️

But mostly reminiscent of the past. It won’t matter now. I am often told that it is easy for me because I have a large portfolio.

Well, I’m happy to give it to anyone to use at any time, and I’m going to the same interview with him with zero portfolio, and I’m sure I’ll get that assignment. 🔥

How can this be? Some pieces of your portfolio show how you thought and solved tasks in the past. You are already different in the present. The sum of your experiences and how you can solve a problem.

It’s a bit like when someone brags about having a lot of girlfriends. But that’s not a guarantee that he’ll perform well in bed, right? ❌

Takeaway🔰
your way of thinking, your expertise and the confidence gained from your experiences are worth more than any portfolio!

Branding VS Marketing

The number one Holy Grail of mistakes! 🏆🧨

Even someone who has been in this field for a long time makes this mistake.

Many people, really many people, believe that branding is part of marketing. Let’s clarify quickly: branding is the basis of marketing, not a part of it.

🅱️Branding comes first.
• Defines and communicates your company values.
• Answers your WHY.
• Should be consistent across all channels.
• Long term.
• Drives recognition and builds loyalty.
• Creates connection.

Ⓜ️Marketing comes after.
• Communicates your brand message.
• Shows your HOW.
• You can be creative with executions and channels.
•Short term.
•Drives sales and builds customer base.
• Creates wants and needs.

Takeaway🔰
The order is very important. Once the branding has been established, and then marketing, then and only then can sales follow. So we can be sure that everything will happen in good time and predictably!

Levels of Branding

Branding is the same at all levels. Wrong. ⛔️

When I started studying branding, I watched tons of videos from Chris Do He once did an extraordinary interview with Marty Neumeier, who said: “A brand is a person’s gut feeling about a product, service or organization”.

I started looking into this: how does this work on different levels?

Take the automotive industry as an example. What is the gut feeling they want to give their customers? 💭🤔

1. Affordable level: this is the lower, entry level among used cars, where everything is determined solely by the price. There are no excessive expectations. It doesn’t matter the brand.
Feeling: let’s be able to drive with it and it will last for 1-2 years. ⚒️💣

2. Cost-effective level: the market of new, small and low-consumption cars. We would like a more durable and reliable car, but here it is still not the brand that matters, but the price-value ratio.
Feeling: I’ve got some value for my money. 💲🧠

3. Feeling of security level. Here, the background provided by the brand is important, as well as reliability. These are mid-range new cars.
Feeling: I feel safe myself & my family. 👨‍👩‍👦🧷

4. Status level: the background and origin of the brand are very important and the price is less important. New premium cars.
Feeling: I’m successful and I want to show it.
📈💰

5. Customized level: all that matters is the brand, its current heritage and the extent to which the car can be customized. The price of the car is very high, but at this level that matters the least. They are only made to order, with a long waiting time. A sense of uniqueness.
Feeling: I’m unique, I have my own world with my own rules. ⭐️🏆

Takeaway🔰
it’s worth examining what kind of feeling we want to give our customers and only then start building the brand. Because your product may be very good, but the person you are making it for or who is looking for it doesn’t know about it because you are not on the same “level”.
